EYE ON THE WALL
Motion Graphic
BRIEF
The aim of this project is to conceptualise, create, and animate a short title sequence loosely inspired by a book blurb chosen from a provided list. The animation is either executed through film and photography or illustration and After Effects animation tools. The project focuses on heightening skills such as conceptual thinking and in-depth planning, thorough storyboarding, digital illustration and/or photography/film, and smooth, visually appealing animation.
DESIGN STRATEGY
This title sequence explores the unsettling feeling of being watched, even in our most private and vulnerable moments, and the quiet discomfort that comes with it. The central symbol of a detached eye represents curiosity, surveillance and hidden observation, guiding the viewer through intimate, everyday scenes inside a house. Suspense builds as the audience is left to interpret fragments and clues, never fully certain of what is being witnessed.
Visually, 2D illustrations layered in Z-space create environments that appear still at first glance but slowly reveal subtle, eerie movement. Lighting and camera movements play a big role in shaping the mood, making ordinary spaces feel tense and slightly eerie. The final reveal shifts the perspective completely, exposing the eye as part of a larger creature collecting secrets. This moment reframes the entire sequence and reinforces the theme that there's more happening beneath the surface.
PROCESS
Extensive research and detailed storyboarding created the foundation for a layered and intentional concept. Rather than constructing a purely aesthetic title sequence, the focus was on constructing a narrative arc that unfolds visually. Each scene was carefully planned to create tension and guide the viewer through an immersive story, rather than a static title sequence.

A mood board and various storyboards allowed for different stories and angles to be explored and the right one to be chosen.
